A Fall Dress

fall dress, the friendly fox
(what's up, crappy posture?)

Today I went to meet up with my sister, Whitney of His & Hers, Sarah, and a cool chick Mary for some coffee and a lot of talking and laughing. I took advantage of the fact that I would be Jacob Leigh free for a bit, so I wore a dress that zips in the back- that's a HUGE deal when you're a breastfeeding mom with a bunch of vintage dresses that you can't wear in public because they zip in the back or the side! My sister and I ate some pizza and did some book shopping at Powell's Books before I hurried back to Josh and Jacob. Having time for myself is so nice when it happens, but then I start feeling incomplete and weird without my child. I wonder if that feeling ever goes away?

Oh, crap! So I just read this article that explains why some comment replies sent by email don't ever get delivered! They're "No-Reply" blogger profiles! I'm so bummed, because I try my very hardest to reply to all the comments I get on here (sometimes they're so lengthy, too!), and it seems like a lot of them never made it to the original commenter. Boo! Sorry to seem like I'm ignoring you. I am going to try to figure out how to install Disqus for the comments so I can actually reply easier. I hope it works!! You guys have so much cool and helpful stuff to say- about gardening, kids, vintage, my emotional posts...I really want to be able to have a discussion, so please feel free to email me, too!

  1. I'm not a good commenter, but I LOVE your blog, your style and the way you make your life beautiful. This outfit is da bomb! ;) You look amazing. I'm so glad you're able to get some time out by yourself. As the mom of a 2 year old (and another one on the way) I know the guilty, incomplete feelings you mention very well, but time out with girlfriends (and no baby on the hip) is so good for us! (At least every once in a while!) I have used Disqus and love it. Makes commenting and managing comments so much more manageable. Hope you will enjoy it too! XO

  3. I know what you mean about the breastfeeding issue. I nursed both of my kids so I have a pretty good collection of front-opening vintage dresses. I'm just starting to ween my little boy and although I'll miss our nursing days, I can't wait to wear those back and side zip dresses again!! The more you go out without your little one, the less strange it will feel but it does take a while! My husband and I have weekly date night on Thursdays. His mom watched the kids so we can go out for a few hours. I'm a stay at home mom so I'm with them ALL day long. I really look forward to those few hours of being baby free but it never fails that we always talk about them, plan things to do with them or bring a treat back home for them on date night! :)

  4. You look lovely! I always admire your clothes & style but can never quite step out of my "mother comfort zone" of shirts & jeans...finding some new dresses this summer has been such a pain with breastfeeding but I wouldn't give it up for the world!

  5. That's weird about the no-reply profiles. I wonder if mine is set that way; I've never gotten a response from you. You'll have to let me know how you like disqus. Glad you got to have a little time out.... always a nice treat! Looking forward to seeing you in a couple weeks!

  7. Wow! You are so stunning, and so quickly after having JL! I've always really admired your personal style...it isn't the samey samey-ness of some other vintage wearers; I think you inject something a little different into your outfits, not sure what it is, but I like it! My eldest is 7 now and my youngest is almost 4...i always enjoy time out from them, I still miss them after a day away.

  10. That's really sweet of you to say, thank you! Its funny how badly I crave just one hour to myself sometimes, but after 30 minutes or so, it's like "Now what?" and I start missing Jacob. Nice to know it doesn't go away. ;)

  11. It's a rare occasion for me to be in something I can't easily nurse in, but it's fun to wear thugs that I haven't in a year. And like you, I wouldn't trade it for anything! I have found lately that high waisted skirts with a t shirt work great, since the skirt covers the tummy when you lift up the shirt. Looks very put together, too!

  16. Ha, thank you! It helped that Jacob nurses a million times a day and weighs so much! He's like my free little gym. ;)
