Our Spring Garden
Last week we started working on our garden. I would like to one day keep a winter garden, too, but this year wasn't the time for it. I planted some strawberry runners my mother-in-law sent us home with, and I'm hoping they'll really spread out and fruit. We've not had much success at all with strawberries in the past. We picked up some greens to plant, and since it's still pretty cold out, I think they'll do pretty well for a while. I'm also planting snow and sugar snap peas for the first time this year. I don't know why peas intimidate me to grow, but I'll try it! I love snacking on them so much! Oh! Our nursery was having a "Buy 2, Get 1 Free" sale on fruit trees, so we picked up a Honeycrisp apple tree and a combination apple tree. Honeycrisps are my absolute favorite apple, I usually have two a day during apple season. And who knew there is such a thing as a combination apple tree!? It has three different varieties growing on it! We picked up a pear tree, as well, to replace the one we have which is rotted and sick.
I am hoping for a break in the rain soon so I can finish planting my plants! I am so so excited to garden. Every year, it's my favorite thing to look forward to. It is so rewarding to get outside, work hard and sweat, then literally enjoy the fruits of your labor! I'm no expert, but I'm learning a few tricks here and there. In this home, I've gardened pregnant and I've gardened with a tiny babe sitting in a bouncy chair next to me. Now Jacob can run around and help his mama, and eat what we grow!
Oh! We are going to build a green house this year for our summer crops. I can't wait to share that with you all! And I can't wait to have a crapload of tomatoes to eat.
